Many people plan get-a-away weddings, whether it’s on some exotic island, European city or Las Vegas, also known as the wedding capital of the world. But can you imagine planning a get-a-away divorce. The Huffington Post recently reported on just that.
- The Divorce Hotel is located in the Netherlands. At a cost of only €2,500 (or $3295) for the weekend, a couple can walk away officially divorced. Amenities include a pre-consultation session before arrival, two single rooms, advice from an estate agent and access to psychologists.
- The Heartbreak Hotel Agency is located in Holland and Belgium. A divorcing couple checks in and is provided with a team of lawyers, financial consultants and psychologists who handle all the paperwork necessary to file for the divorce, all while the divorcing couple relaxes at the hotel. The owner of the Heartbreak Hotel Agency told the Huffington Post, “The idea is to give couples an opportunity to go their separate ways in peace and without acrimony. Both have to be firmly committed to the idea of divorce.”
- Divorce Resort will soon be available in Texas. The divorcing couple and attorney will stay at a four-star resort over a three day weekend. The first two days are spent deciding finances and custody issues, with the third day being set aside for all other issues. If the divorce is particularly contentious, the couples may have a mediator present in order to avoid any face to face time at all during the weekend. The Divorce Resort guarantees that at the end of the weekend, all regarding custody, property and child support will be resolved.
Most couples still divorce the traditional way. If you are going through a divorce, you should consult with an Illinois divorce attorney to make sure your best interests are being represented.
