On Valentine’s Day, Elaine Cook got into an argument with her boyfriend after they went out for dinner. When she insisted he leave, he tried to give her a goodbye kiss to end the argument—and she bit off a “large” piece of his tongue, according to this article in the Chicago Sun-Times.
51-year-old Cook, a resident of Skokie, Illinois, is now being charged with aggravated domestic battery. A Cook County judge ordered her to be held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Her boyfriend, who asked to remain anonymous, is said to have “mixed feelings” about the event. However, he is trying to look on the bright side, stating that “obviously, talking is not the best thing to do right now…[but] at least I can talk.” He also said that he does not want Cook’s life ruined, or to see her in jail even though he is now marred.
“Everything’s sad,” the boyfriend said to the Sun-Times. “It’s just sad. The whole thing. I’m in a lot of pain and I’m not sure what direction I’m going at this point.”
After she bit off the piece of his tongue, the boyfriend ran to the sink in the kitchen. Cook placed his tongue on the counter, where he then placed it in a bag of ice while Cook and her roommate called 911. The boyfriend was taken to Evanston Hospital but could not reattach the tongue because of inadequate blood supply.
